Farm Family Wellness Alliance Project

Farm Foundation’s flagship project focused on farmer health is the Farm Family Wellness Alliance (FFWA). The pilot for this project was established in 2020 in Iowa, providing mental health and wellness services to farm families in Iowa. The FFWA was expanded to Illinois in 2021.  In 2023, the Alliance partners were expanded in order to provide a peer-to-peer, farmer-to-farmer support community to all farm families across the US.  National services were launched in January 2024. Accelerating Solutions for Farmer Health

Growing in scope over the years, the Farm Family Wellness Alliance made services nationally available in 2024.

Project Timeline for the Farm Family Wellness Alliance

DECEMBER 2020: Following the challenges presented by the derecho storm of August 2020,  Farm Foundation obtained funding to create a program that provides farm families with access to confidential, pre-paid, ongoing behavioral health services, including wellness coaching and counseling. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach was an essential partner in launching the program and creating awareness about these new services in Iowa. Coaching and counseling were provided through Personal Assistance Services, an organization with a long history of helping people through various life needs and events. Iowa Farm Bureau was a program sponsor and marketing partner.

AUGUST 2021: In August 2021, the program expanded its service area to include all farm families in Illinois. The Farm Family Wellness Alliance provided access to mental health and other wellness services in both states, with the goal of continuing to expand to more states. All services were pre-paid and available to all generations within a farm family.

JANUARY 2024: The Farm Family Wellness Alliance expanded services nationwide, with a revamped service model through Togetherall, and with ongoing referral to services from Personal Assistance Services (PAS) as needed. Services were launched in January 2024 at the Farm Bureau Federation conference. Visit our resource page to learn more and access services.
