Iowa Farm Family Wellness Alliance
Farming is one of the toughest and most rewarding jobs on the planet—and its ups and downs can affect the whole family. Following the challenges presented by the derecho storm of August 2020, Farm Foundation and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, along with other supporters, have formed the Iowa Farm Family Wellness Alliance to bring Iowa families even more resources for free, confidential support from skilled professionals who can help with a wide range of life events.
About the Alliance
Farm Foundation obtained funding to create a program that provides access to confidential, pre-paid, ongoing behavioral health services, including wellness coaching and counseling, to farm families in Iowa. In partnership with Farm Foundation, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach formed the Iowa Farm Family Wellness Alliance to raise awareness about these new services, which complement those already available to Iowa farm families through Iowa Concern. Coaching and counseling are provided through Personal Assistance Services, an organization with a long history of helping people through various life needs and events, and is free of charge to Iowa farm families. Iowa was selected as a pilot state for this program following the derecho storms in August of 2020; the goal is to expand it to other states as time goes on.
