Who Owns America?

Who Owns America?

Who Owns America? was a series of three conferences sponsored by the Land Tenure Center at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  The conferences took place in 1995, 1998 and 2001.

The 2001 theme, Minority Land and Community Security, focus on the Center for Minority Land and Community Security, a collaborative project of Tuskegee University and the Land Tenure Center. The conference had three goals:

  • Provide learning opportunities for interested individuals. There were 49 1/2 hours of sessions through 29 workshops and 4 plenary sessions.
  • Provide a forum to develop vital networks and form coalitions. Participant comments indicated that this was a valuable feature of the conference.
  • Focus attention on minority land and community security issues in North America. A conference organizer appeared on morning TV news to promote the conference, the keynote address was broadcast on local radio, and a story was published in the Indianapolis Star after the conference.

The conference was attended by 132 individuals from 32 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, South Africa, Venequela and Zimbabwe. A Conference Program and Book of Abstracts is available here. A final conference report is available here.
