2000 Albany NY Information

Farm Foundation and the National Public Policy Education Committee are pleased to announce that the 50th National Public Policy Education Conference will be held, September 17-20, 2000, in Albany, New York. Extension policy educators and others interested in increasing public understanding of public problems and policies are invited to attend this special conference.

  • The conference will open with a special 50th anniversary reception and dinner on Sunday, September 17. The  program will include sessions on biotechnology, food and the environment; the emerging food chain; land use and water quality; the future of rural America; financing and delivering rural health care; the graying of America; small farms; and the 2002 farm bill. A special dinner and program at Lindenwood, the home of President Martin Van Buren, will be a highlight of the conference on Tuesday evening, September 19.  Preconference workshops on working with the media and public issues dispute resolution, and a  special learning tour focusing on small farms in the Northeast, will be offered on Sunday, September 17. A special Tuesday night dinner and program will be held at Lindenwald, the home of President Martin Van Buren.

  • The 2000 National Public Policy Education Conference will have a poster session related to educational programs about public policy issues. It will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19. Click  here for more information.

  • The conference registration fee is $210 ($240 after August 31). Separate registration fees are charged for the preconference events. The form is available  here.

  • The Conference will be held at the Albany Marriott Hotel, 189 Wolf Road, Albany, New York 12205, Tel: 800-443-8952 or 518-458-8444, Fax: 518-482-7809. Please make your reservations directly with the hotel. Conference hotel rates are $109 per day single or double. The cut off date is August 28, 2000.   • Farm Foundation has established a $10,000 fund to pay transportation expenses for extension personnel who need financial assistance to attend the conference. An application for transportation assistance can be found  here. Applications must be returned to Farm Foundation by July 1, 2000. Lodging and other conference expenses must be covered by the participants or their sponsoring extension unit.

  • Farm Foundation and the National Public Policy Education Committee sponsors the R.J. Hildreth Award for Career Achievement in Public Policy Education and the Outstanding Public Issues Education Program Award. These awards are given annually at the National Public Policy Education Conference to honor individuals who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship and public service through public policy education programs.
