National C-FAR

The National Coalition for Food and Agricultural Research (National C-FAR) had its inaugural meeting in Washington, D.C., Jan 31, 2001. It was formed to secure additional resources to fund high-quality research and related outreach programs. Its focus is on agricultural production systems, natural resources and conservation, expanding agricultural markets, rural development, human nutrition and food safety. The original target was to secure $1 billion of additional federal funding each year for the next five years to support research and Extension programs. A broad-based coalition of food, agriculture, nutrition, conservation and natural resource sector organizations was involved. Farm Foundation provided leadership and financial services to help initiate the effort. National C-FAR is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, stakeholder-driven, consensus-based coalition which will participate in planning and evaluating the impact of research activities.
