Who Owns America? - III Conference

December 19, 2001 (Chicago) Who Owns America? was the third in a series of conferences (1995, 1998, 2001) sponsored by The Land Tenure Center of the University of Wisconsin - Madison. The conference was held at Madison, Wisconsin, on June 6-9, 2001. The 2001 theme, Minority Land and Community Security, helped focus the important work of the Center for Minority Land and Community Security, a collaborative project of Tuskegee University and the Land Tenure Center. The conference brought national attention to minority land and community security issues.

The conference had three goals:
  • Provide learning opportunities for interested individuals. There were 49 1/2 hours of sessions through 29 workshops and 4 plenary sessions.
  • Provide a forum to develop vital networks and form coalitions. Participant comments indicated that this was a valuable feature of the conference.
  • Focus attention on minority land and community security issues in North America. A conference organizer appeared on morning TV news to promote the conference, the keynote address was broadcast on local radio, and a story was published in the Indianapolis Star after the conference.
The conference was attended by 132 individuals from 32 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, South Africa, Venequela and Zimbabwe. Conference evaluations were highly favorable. A Conference Program and Book of Abstracts is available  here. A final conference report is available  here.

Additonal information is available through the conference website.
