Presentation Title: Drought Shocks, Imports, and US Retail Beef Prices

Rundong Peng, originally from Beijing, is a PhD candidate in Agricultural Economics at Michigan State University. Specializing in causal inference and time-series econometrics, his research focuses on global agricultural trade and commodity market dynamics.

Rundong investigates the impact of natural and economic shocks—such as droughts or tariff policies—on consumer and livestock prices by applying debiased statistical learning methods to high-dimensional price systems. Build onto his research, Rundong is a recognized contributor to his professional field including multiple presentations at the 2025 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting.

Looking toward the future, Rundong is focused on pursuing a research career in either academia or industry. He aims to leverage his expertise in advanced statistical methods, machine learning, and causal modeling to drive strategic decision-making and comprehensive policy evaluation.
