Open Position: Manager of Annual Giving

About the Position
The new Manager of Annual Giving will be empowered to identify, cultivate, and solicit new donor prospects for the Farm Foundation annual and some major giving programs. They will grow and manage a pool of important relationships from introduction to giving. The Manager of Annual Giving will be supervised by the VP of Development External Affairs and work as part of a larger fundraising team to create strategies and use personal meetings, peers, direct mail, and electronic tools to solicit both restricted and unrestricted support for Farm Foundation.

Compensation

  • Salary is $60,000 to $66,000. Commensurate with previous experience
  • Generous benefits package includes medical and dental with 75-85% of the premium employer-paid (based on which plan is chosen), life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage. Retirement plan offered with a 5% employer contribution and an additional 4% match of employee contributions. Comprehensive leave and ½ day Fridays in the summer.

Schedule

  • Work week includes a hybrid model of remote and in the Oakbrook office two days a week. On rare occasion work on evening work may be required. Limited national travel may be involved (one or two times per year)
  • This is a fulltime exempt position.

Summary of Responsibilities

Serve as lead fundraiser and responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating these income streams:

  • Round Table auction
  • Round Table corporate sponsors
  • Round Table Annual Fund
  • Other annual appeals
  • Board of Directors annual giving
  • Friends of Farm Foundation
  • Social Media fundraising.

Main Responsibilities

  • Write appeal letters and other collateral materials used in annual unrestricted fundraising
  • Oversee the production of appeals, digital and print, from initial concept to completion
  • Create improved systems to manage the annual giving and stewardship calendar
  • Keep track of and report annual giving progress, including participation and dollars raised
  • Cultivate, steward, and solicit existing donors and new prospects, focusing on expanding the Round Table Annual Fund the Friends of Farm Foundation donor base
  • Regularly use, monitor, and analyze data in Little Green Light, the donor database, and report on donor retention, return on investment of the appeals, and other performance indicators. Enter information on new prospects
  • Seek out new annual fund prospect pools that align with the mission and vision of Farm Foundation
  • Develop new and creative approaches to annual giving using tools such as social media campaigns, auctions, and special events
  • Plan and execute board member’s annual giving campaign
  • Coordinate the Development Committee’s stewardship activities
  • Meet regularly with the Vice President of Development External Relations to set goals, integrate solicitation strategies, and review prospects and plan.
  • Ensure ethical and appropriate financial administration of contributed income
  • Participate in Farm Foundation events as needed
  • Work with the Next Generation Program Manager to develop, support and build a culture of philanthropy among program alumni
  • Develop a giving program for on-campus program participants.

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend all trainings and internal and external meetings as required
  • Ensure that confidential information relating to the organization, its staff, and stakeholders is kept confidential
  • Be an excellent steward of the Farm Foundation, modeling the core values of the organization
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Capabilities Required

  • Minimum of four years of fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations, along with evidence of growing donors from one level to the next
  • Previous experience setting and meeting fundraising goals
  • Previous experience evaluating strategies and return on investment and making course corrections when necessary
  • A passion for telling the story and engaging stakeholders in the mission of Farm Foundation
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to build strong external relationships with a variety of constituents
  • Integrity and ability to manage confidential and sensitive materials and situations
  • Passion for details and processes with proactive attention to detail
  • Proactive communication and problem solving
  • Strong, professional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Reliability, drive, and a focus on results
  • Demonstrated ability at handling multiple projects and managing deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

Preferred Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Food and agriculture experience and/or interest

About the Position
The Design and Social Media Coordinator will be empowered to help Farm Foundation have greater reach and impact through our marketing and communications, specifically by enhancing our design capabilities and leveraging our social media. This role will report to the Marketing and Communications Manager and will support the broader Farm Foundation team, through communicating our programs and fundraising initiatives.

Main Responsibilities:

Design for Print and Digital (approximately 50% of the position)

  • Design, maintain, and curate the Farm Foundation website, ensuring that projects and program work is current and relevant
  • Design, write, and post content for the Farm Foundation website and event websites. Copyedit other submissions to the website
  • Design and produce the layout for the Farm Foundation annual reports, issue papers, fundraising, and marketing materials
  • Work with the team to develop new content formats, as needed, such as infographics
  • Develop materials with strong visuals, such as PowerPoint decks and scripts, on behalf of the President/CEO and staff.

Social Media Coordination (approximately 50% of the position)

  • On a daily basis, produce, monitor, and measure the impact of regular social media content across multiple platforms that support the ongoing programming of Farm Foundation to grow the organization’s market presence
  • Develop social media content that supports, informs, and promotes the multi‐generational, multi‐stakeholder project and program portfolio of Farm Foundation
  • Develop content for specific audiences. Create social media content that connects emerging issues and important cyclical events in food and agriculture to the work of Farm Foundation
  • Use social media to promote giving and engagement opportunities
  • Use social media to drive traffic to the Farm Foundation website
  • Use analytics to evaluate social media strategies and make course corrections when needed.

Skills and Capabilities Required

  • Minimum of two years of design and social media experience, strong preference for working in the nonprofit sector
  • Skilled in intermediate graphic design and layout and possess a strong portfolio
  • Proficient in design software and technologies including, but not limited to, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Canva
  • Proficient in website tools like WordPress and Google Analytics
  • Proficient in writing for and posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; Intermediate-to-advanced skills preferred
  • Able to thrive in a lean fast-paced environment requiring both collaboration and proactive problem solving
  • Able to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple concurrent projects to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates passion for detail and a focus on excellence across outputs
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Integrity and ability to manage confidential and sensitive materials and situations

Preferred Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably within a design discipline, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Food and agriculture experience and/or interest
  • Basic knowledge of HTML
  • Experience with scheduling tools like Hootsuite and metrics tool such as Meltwater is preferred.
