Farmer Health

We know farming is already a stressful profession, and the additional stressors of global crises such as COVID-19 haven’t helped. According to a study from American Farm Bureau, 66% of farmers or farmworkers say the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted their mental health, and 87% say it’s important to reduce the stigma about mental health in the ag community. Today, many people may not seek care because they are worried about being perceived negatively in their communities, but the study would suggest people know that care is important. At the same time, access to care can be a real challenge for farm families. Finding a provider for mental health and wellness services can be a challenge in rural areas—there may not be one nearby; if there is, they may have a waiting list; many families may simply not be able to afford care. Farm Foundation is working to facilitate a solution that can address a lot of those barriers.

Taking a Holistic View

Farm Foundation is interested in pursuing projects that create practical solutions for all aspects of farmer health, including not just mental health, but also physical and financial health.
