Willis Nelson

Hailing from Sondheimer, Louisiana, Willis Nelson is a fourth-generation row crop farmer, natural leader, and proud father of five who has been immersed in agriculture his entire life. As the lead economist and agronomist for his family’s farming operation, Willis plays a critical role in both the business and production sides of the farm. While he thrives in the field, he is equally committed to expanding his knowledge across all areas of the operation to ensure long-term sustainability and growth. Over the past decade, his family has successfully expanded their acreage and secured strategic business opportunities that have elevated their operation and strengthened their brand.
Willis is deeply engaged in agricultural leadership and advocacy. He serves on the Louisiana FSA State Committee, the NRCS County Supervisor Board, and the Delta Economic Research and Sustainability District, where he works to improve food access in underserved communities. As a member of the LSU Ag Leadership Program’s 2025–2027 cohort, he is helping bring greater diversity and representation to the program. His longstanding involvement with the National Black Growers Council has further fueled his passion for ensuring farmers have access to innovation, resources, and opportunities.
Grounded in faith, integrity, and service, Willis lives by the values instilled in him by his parents. Outside of farming, he enjoys spending time with his family and perfecting his barbecue skills. Guided by the belief that progress requires perseverance, he remains committed to uplifting the next generation of farmers.
