What the Public Values About Farmland

A November 2003 workshop in Baltimore, Md., was focused on the question of what the public values about farmland. Participants included local policy makers responsible for farmland preservation programs, and economists who have studied the public’s preferences for preserving farmland examined ways to improve public decisions about farm and ranch land preservation.

Farm Foundation organized the workshop in collaboration with USDA’s Economic Research Service, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and Cooperative State Research, Extension and Education Service.  An executive summary is posted here. The workshop was also the resource for a Farm Foundation Issue Report on farmland preservation.
