Jared Trask
Presentation topic: “Agent-Based Modeling for Rodent Pest Management in Agriculture”
Jared Trask is a Ph.D. student in Animal Sciences at Purdue University, where he studies rodent behavior, learning, and disease transmission in the context of commercial poultry operations. His current research goal is to develop a computer simulation tool to visualize and predict rodent infestations to better develop rodent management plans. Before that, he has earned a Master’s in Experimental Psychology specializing in Behavioral Neuroscience from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, focusing on how memories can be manipulated in mice in a pre-clinical research context, investigating novel treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder. After completing his PhD research, Jared hopes to secure a position at a world-class research institution, to further develop expertise in his field, explore commercializing his research and new collaborations.
Jared’s work has spans from labs to policy desks. He has managed research trials with a local start-up to test ultrasonic rodent deterrents and worked with the Canadian Coast Guard analyzing policy and building tools to support Arctic operations. He’s also spent time as a teaching assistant, helping undergrads navigate the world of psychology, and has completed several teaching and entrepreneurial training programs.
Outside of work and school, Jared volunteers with a range of community organizations—from historical societies to mentorship programs—and currently serves on an art gallery board. His passion for creativity shows through in his award-winning art and regular musical gigs—he plays guitar weekly at a local traditional Irish session.
Whether he’s in the lab, the classroom, or playing tunes in the pub, Jared brings curiosity, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to everything he does.
