National Public Policy Education Conferences

First organized in the 1950s, the National Public Policy Education Conference (NPPEC) provided Extension educators and other professionals with the research-based information needed to work with citizens on controversial public issues.

The annual conference, which was organized by Farm Foundation, offered a variety of topics. In each, experts explain all facets of the issues and provide participants with materials they could use in public education programs. The combination of research-based information and educational materials and techniques provided at these conferences was unique among training opportunities for policy educators.

The last conference took place in 2006. Use of the conference format as a tool to enhance public policy education has end for several reasons, including the decline in the number of designated public policy educators within Extension, the expense of staging and traveling to conferences, and reduced budgets.

Reports from all the conferences are available on AgEcon Search.  Materials from recent years are available here.
