Agricultural Intensification, Economic Development and the Environment

As an outgrowth of a Farm Foundation-sponsored conference, the book, Tradeoffs and Synergies: Agricultural Intensification, Economic Development and the Environment, was published. The book explores conceptual, empirical and policy issues which arise in assessing the trade-offs and synergies encountered in jointly achieving economic development, food production and environmental sustainability goals in developing countries. Numerous case studies form Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America – many employing economic, biophysical and policy models to generate analytical assessments of trade-offs and complementaries – are presented. Most chapters devote significant attention to resulting policy implications.

The book was edited by David R. Lee and Christopher Barrett and published by CABI Publishing (2001). ISBN 0-85199-435-0
